Memory breakthrough? Kepler's 3D stacking could redefine chipmaking

Could Kepler's innovative approach to memory chips ease the global shortage while saving fab costs?

An ambitious chip startup, Kepler Computing, claims to have cracked the code on high-bandwidth memory (HBM) without relying on expensive EUV technology, potentially easing the global memory shortage.

Their 3D stacking approach and proprietary material allow for increased memory density, with similar gains for high-speed cache memory. This could reduce data transfer times and energy consumption in computing devices.

GlobalFoundries and other big-name investors, including Bill Gates, are backing Kepler's innovations, which could be a game-changer in a market where building new fabs is costly and time-consuming.

Kepler's mini fabs in Singapore have shown promising results, with some tests suggesting a conversion from existing fabs to next-generation facilities in just eight months.

With the demands for high-bandwidth memory increasing in a data-center-driven world, Kepler's approach could provide a more efficient and cost-effective solution to meet growing memory needs.
