A new study has shed light on the age-old question of whether T. rex was a warm-blooded, active creature or a slow-moving reptile. Eagle, have discovered that T. rex had a body temperature of around 36°C – roughly the same as a modern elephant. The team used a technique called clumped isotope thermometry, which involves analyzing the formation of clumped bonds in carbonate minerals within tooth enamel. This method provides a more accurate measurement of body temperature than previous methods, which were hindered by the variable composition of water in the animal's body.
The implication is clear: T. rex was no less active or warm-blooded than today’s elephants or even modern birds. This challenges the long-standing view of the dinosaur as a sluggish, tail-dragging creature and brings us closer to understanding its true nature as an active predator.
The research not only changes our understanding of T. rex but also provides insights into dinosaur physiology. It supports the theory that many dinosaurs, including T. rex, were endotherms, capable of generating their own body heat.
