Bentley has unveiled its first fully electric vehicle, the Torcal, named after a Spanish rock formation. The car, unveiled after a period of disguise, is smaller than the Bentayga and should be priced lower, or at least the plug-in hybrid version. Under the hood, it shares technology with Porsche, offering impressive performance with peak outputs of 810 hp (604 kW) and 880 lb-ft (1,194 Nm).

The Torcal S, the more powerful version, boasts 875 hp (653 kW) and 995 lb-ft (1,350 Nm), capable of reaching 60 mph in 2.8 seconds. Despite its weight, the Torcal’s suspension and drive modes have been calibrated to meet the expectations of existing Bentley customers, ensuring a balance between comfort and performance.

According to Martin Page, product line director for the Torcal, the vehicle offers a unique blend of comfort and dynamics, stating that in a steady state environment, the ride comfort is comparable to a Flying Spur, yet it also has the capability to perform as dynamically as a GT in a dynamic environment.

The Torcal’s unveiling marks a significant step for Bentley, but also for the automotive industry as a whole. As electric vehicles continue to gain momentum, the question remains: will this be the start of a transformation, or just a small step in the grand scheme of things?
