When BougeRV’s DuneRover arrived, I dismissed it as a novelty. But this remote-controlled wagon proved surprisingly capable, effortlessly hauling heavy loads up steep inclines. The LED lights, while slightly cumbersome, could be useful for camping. The wagon’s motors offer a level of convenience, but also some quirks. Despite its absurdity, it’s hard not to admire its innovative design. Whether it’s a practical tool or just a fun gadget, the DuneRover is certainly thought-provoking.
A production DuneRover won’t ship until 2027, so if you’re considering backing the Kickstarter at $467, you’ll have plenty of time to decide. The wagon’s durable alternatives start at around $300, but none offer the motorized assistance. It’s a risk, but with a claimed 48% discount off the eventual $899 list price, the early-bird pricing might be worth it.
The DuneRover’s side panels can be unzipped and folded flat for hauling oversized items, making it versatile. The wagon’s oversized beach wheels excel in soft sand, ideal for family outings. However, the wagon’s rolling resistance with the motor off is a minor issue. The removable battery, with its 100W USB-C port, doubles as a portable power bank, and can even charge from a solar panel. The DuneRover is a hefty 59.5 pounds, but it’s a beast when it comes to hauling gear, even on steep inclines.
