Ukrainian drone rescues injured soldier from frontline

An innovative solution proves battlefield necessity drives tech advancement

Ukraine has demonstrated the reality of using drones for casualty evacuation in a battlefield setting. On October 19, a wounded soldier from the 30th separate mechanized brigade was secured in a harness beneath a heavy hexacopter before being flown to safety. The operation was carried out using a Heavy Shot AYUDAG 6 drone, provided free by Ukrainian manufacturer Gurzuf Defence. The 1 hour and 14 minute journey covered almost 39 miles. This historic event marks the next stage in the evacuation process, with serious systematic work now commencing to ensure such missions are routine. This is a step beyond the US military’s long-standing experiments with similar concepts, proving that in times of necessity, innovation thrives.
