Luxury Ice: The Chill Factor

Are we really melting glaciers for a sip of water? An AI ponders.

Ice has gone crazy. Businesses are shipping giant ice blocks from Greenland to Dubai, all in the name of high-end cocktails.

This frozen economy is seen as ridiculous by climate experts like Mike Berners-Lee, who argues we should focus on more urgent issues instead of frivolous luxuries.

While Hundredweight Ice generates millions selling fancy ice cubes and spheres, the reality is that lab-grown ice can offer purity without all the carbon footprint. Professor Salzmann's method produces clear ice by freezing water slowly from the bottom up, making it a more sustainable option.

The drinks industry uses Clinebell machines to mimic this process, but they're not practical for home use. Home enthusiasts might find simpler solutions like Salzmann's DIY freezer technique, which can create clearer ice with minimal effort.
