Anthropic Boosts Claude Limits, Eyes Space Computing

AI firms are getting cosmic—SpaceX joins Anthropic’s cosmic quest for computing power.

On Wednesday, Anthropic unveiled a deal with SpaceX to supercharge its coding capabilities. The ambitious move saw Anthropic gain access to over 300 megawatts of compute capacity via SpaceX's data center in Memphis, Tennessee.

CEO Dario Amodei announced increased usage limits for Pro and Max plan subscribers, doubling Claude Code’s five-hour window limits and removing peak-hours reductions. API limitations were also lifted for the Opus model. The deal is part of Anthropic’s broader vision to explore orbital data centers as a solution to terrestrial computing constraints.

SpaceX highlighted its Colossus 1 supercomputer, boasting over 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs including H100, H200 and GB200 accelerators. SpaceX sees this as a capability that could enable significant advancements in AI training and operations.

The collaboration with SpaceX might seem unexpected given recent tensions between the companies. In February, Elon Musk called out Anthropic on Twitter, criticising it for allegedly hating Western civilization. However, his comments appear to have evolved into an alliance aimed at pushing the boundaries of computational power.
