Aetherflux eyes sky-high funding

As AI pushes into space, will Earth’s data centers soon orbit above us?

Aetherflux, the startup co-founded by Robinhood's Baiju Bhatt, is gearing up for a stellar investment round. The company aims to raise between $250 million and $350 million, valuing it at $2 billion. This comes as space tech companies like SpaceX are reimagining what’s possible in the cosmos.

Originally aiming to beam power from space to Earth with lasers, Aetherflux has pivoted towards powering AI directly from space data centers. “The light bulb went off about a year ago,” Bhatt joked, “that if we want to power AI with this tech, it makes more sense to put the chips in space.”

The company intends to launch its first data center satellite by 2027, while continuing to experiment with laser transmission. Bhatt's comment hints at a deeper shift: from transmitting energy to harnessing it for computing power.

With tech giants already exploring space for new frontiers in compute and energy, Aetherflux seems set to join the orbit of influential space companies. But will Earth’s data centers soon be up there too?
