The Federal Aviation Administration has ordered SpaceX to investigate the failure of its Starship booster after it failed during a test flight on May 22. The investigation will halt further launches until approval, potentially delaying SpaceX’s upcoming IPO in mid-June.
This mishap occurred a few minutes into the flight, involving the separation and return of the Super Heavy booster. Despite making significant changes to the design and engines for this third version, Starship still experienced issues.
SpaceX aims to create reliable, reusable rockets like Falcon 9 but faces challenges in achieving these goals. The company’s Starlink service, which relies heavily on these developments, continues as its main revenue generator. Meanwhile, rival Blue Origin has been cleared for its New Glenn rocket launch attempts.
