AI Startup Set to Transform Drug Discovery

Miles Wang’s new venture could revolutionize how we find cures, one algorithm at a time.

Miles Wang, an OpenAI researcher famed for his work in AI-driven scientific discovery, is poised to launch a pharmaceutical powerhouse. The startup, reportedly valued at $2 billion and set to raise about $200 million, aims to harness AI for drug development.

Several other OpenAI researchers are expected to join this new venture, aligning with ongoing interest from investors in life sciences breakthroughs. Chai Discovery, a two-year-old competitor, recently raised $400 million at a $3.8 billion valuation, underscoring the potential of AI in pharmaceuticals.

Wang’s startup may focus on finding new uses for existing drugs and those that have previously failed trials, potentially accelerating time to market. His move from Harvard in 2024 adds to the trend of young, unorthodox founders attracting significant funding.

The deal is not yet finalized; however, if successful, it could represent a milestone in AI integration into drug discovery processes, significantly reducing development times and costs.
