Sweedish electric and autonomous trucking firm Einride has snapped up Flipturn, an EV charging startup, for $38 million. The acquisition bolsters Einride’s fleet with software that can monitor and manage charging infrastructure, making it a more holistic service provider.

Founded in 2022, Flipturn raised $15.5 million to develop a platform that communicates with any EV charger using the Open Charge Point Protocol. This tech helps companies keep track of vehicle battery levels, driving patterns, and integrates with on-site renewable energy systems for efficiency.

Einride’s CEO, Roozbeh Charli, sees the deal as “a decisive step in our U.S. scaling strategy.” It allows Einride to offer a more integrated service package – not just trucks but also charging software that optimises their use. This could reassure potential customers who are wary of transitioning to electric truck fleets.

Einride is already well-known for its distinctive cable-less podlike autonomous trucks and operates 200 heavy-duty electric trucks for clients like Heineken, PepsiCo, and Carlsberg in Europe, North America, and the UAE. The company recently secured a deal with Amazon to manage its fleet of electric trucks through their Relay freight network.
