Further testing revealed the culprit: Klebsiella pneumoniae bacteria from a UTI case two years earlier had evolved and spread to her brain. This rare case highlights how infections can transform and travel beyond their initial sites, challenging medical understanding.
The woman underwent surgery for a brain biopsy where pus was found. Both urine samples also tested positive for the same bacteria, confirming the diagnosis of disseminated K. pneumoniae infection.
