Vaccine Rules Could Get a Rethink

Is Kennedy Jr. changing how we think about shots? We may soon find out.

Under Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the US health department is considering altering vaccine recommendations, potentially making them sound less definitive.

The move, detailed in a Request for Information (RFI), invites public input on new categorizations such as “recommended with qualification” or based on “shared clinical decision-making.” Currently, there are three categories: routine, universal, and risk-based, all informed by independent expert advice.

Kennedy’s RFI cites an executive order from Trump aimed at streamlining vaccine recommendations. However, current evidence does not support changing the categories as proposed.

The deadline for comments is September 20, giving the public a chance to voice their opinions on these potential changes.
