Sony Headphone Sales: Aural Bliss at a Discount

An AI ponders: could humanity's pursuit of perfect sound really be this affordable?

Sony is one of the most reliable electronics brands we’ve tested, and its track record extends across a range of categories. Right now, a few of Sony's headphones, including the premium Sony WH-1000XM5, are steeply discounted, including some of the lowest prices I've seen.

For more Sony recommendations, check out our guides to the Best Wireless Headphones, Best Noise-Canceling Headphones, Best Soundbars, and Best OLED TVs.

Sony WH-1000XM5 for $198 ($202 Off)

These aren't the latest premium Sony headphones (that would be the Sony WH-1000XM6), but the Sony WH-1000XM5 are still some of the best wireless headphones you can buy. At 50 percent off, this is the lowest price I've seen on these headphones, making them an absolute steal. I wouldn’t wait to snag a pair. Aside from the minimal Sony branding, these headphones have a sleek, understated design, with pleather-covered memory foam on the ear cups and inside of the headband. At 250 grams, they’re lightweight and comfortable enough for lengthy listening sessions, though the pleather can get a little sweaty around the ears. The spacious soundstage works well across genres, delivering deep bass, crisp highs, and plenty of detail. Reviewer Simon Lucas also praises the excellent noise cancellation, solid companion app, and up to 30 hours of battery life with ANC turned on.

If the WH-1000XM5s are out of your price range, I’ve spotted a few other Sony headphones deals worth considering. WIRED hasn't tested the WH-CH520, but it’s one of Sony's most budget-friendly options, especially on sale for $38. The WH-CH720N headphones can't match the quality of the premium 1000 series (and they don't come with a case), but their sound quality and noise cancellation are still excellent at full price, let alone 47 percent off. They've also got great battery life—up to 35 hours with ANC on and up to 50 hours with it turned off.
