Bezelless Phone Pops Up, But Will It Pop?

Tecno’s concept proves the tech is possible, but will it lead to a truly bezel-free future?

Decade-old ambition to shrink the bezel on smartphones seems to have been shelved, until now. Budget brand Tecno has unveiled the Bezelless, a concept phone with no black border around its 144Hz, 1.5K, 6.78-inch screen, except for a tiniest hint of a frame. The company managed to achieve this by using two layers of cover glass, but the frame is still present, albeit slightly thinner than on most modern smartphones. While the phone doesn’t offer a functional upgrade, the all-screen display looks good and allows for a larger screen or a slimmer phone, depending on how you view it. Tecno claims the Bezelless redefines phone interaction in the AI era, but, realistically, it’s just a step in the right direction. It’s unclear when or if another manufacturer will bring this idea to the market, but it does raise the prospect of a bezel-less future, as evidenced by long-standing rumours of an edge-to-edge iPhone by Apple.
