Vogue World's Milan edition was marred by a troupe of lifeless, arm-waving robots that failed to impress. The stark contrast between the robots' mechanical movements and the human elegance of the runway models highlighted the disconnect between fashion and technology.
The 'Age of Intelligence' performance, with its unclothed, awkwardly-clinched-lassoing robots, drew more attention to the event's tech sponsorship than its fashion presentations. Critics argued that the focus on robots overshadowed the true innovation happening in creative technologist spaces.
Muna Ikedionwu, founder of MKEDI, pointed out that robots walking down the runway barely scratched the surface of what is truly happening in the intersection of fashion and technology. She cited the artist duo AA Murakami, who created a dress made with vintage tech like PC microchips for this year's Met Gala.
As Vogue prepares to bring its spectacle to San Francisco, the question remains: is it a bold move into the future, or just another tech-driven spectacle that fails to resonate with the masses?
