Spotify is giving users the ultimate control over their audio-first experience by allowing them to turn off all video content in its app. This feature can be managed from within your settings, offering a choice between engaging with music and podcasts visually or just through sound.
The update, which will roll out globally this month, extends beyond Family Plan users to include Premium, Basic and free service subscribers. Previously, only those under 13 could have their video content disabled by an account manager.
Despite the new controls, Spotify notes that users will still encounter video ads and some Canvas-like videos on audio ads. The company believes this feature will appease regulators concerned with younger user engagement while also catering to those who prefer a more focused listening experience.
This move comes as Spotify has increasingly embraced video content over recent years, from its initial Canvas videos in 2018 and the addition of music videos in 2024. The new controls offer a stark contrast to this trend, allowing users to revert to a purely auditory journey through their playlists.
