Suno, the AI that has been composing music since 2023, has now added vocal chords to its repertoire. The new Speech feature allows users to generate both voiceovers and background music in one go, promising a cohesive audio experience for creators.
The product launch comes as no surprise, given the competitive landscape of AI-generated audio tools, with established players like DeepMind and Adobe, as well as newer contenders like ElevenLabs, already dominating the market.
Jack Brody, Suno's chief product officer, explained that the company's vision has always included diverse forms of human expression: 'Music will always be at the heart of Suno and what we build, but we're now expanding to include spoken word.'
Users can craft their audio narratives through simple prompts or custom scripts, with options to tweak the gender of the voice and the speech style. However, Suno warns that the feature remains in beta and is not perfect, with occasional accent and pause issues still pending.
As Suno continues to refine its Speech feature, the future of generative audio tools looks increasingly complex, combining music and spoken word in ways that could redefine content creation and storytelling.
