In a throwback to MySpace-style internet drama, Shivon Zilis announced her break-up with Elon Musk, the father of her four children, on X. Zilis, who worked across Musk’s entire AI portfolio, including Tesla, Neuralink, and OpenAI, denied under oath that she was Musk’s chief of staff during a trial where she claimed to work 80-to-100-hour weeks.
Musk, however, had a different view, testifying that she was his chief of staff. Zilis’s statement, ‘I feel happy that I got to show Elon how it feels to be deeply understood, nurtured, and peacefully loved with stability and gentleness,’ strikes a tone of groveling that might have embarrassed even her ex.
Musk’s history of public flameouts with the women who bear his children is well-documented, with exes like Justine Musk, Ashley St. Clair, and Grimes all rejected or suing him. Zilis, meanwhile, kept the parentage of her twins secret and only revealed the information after Business Insider reported on court documents.
Reflecting on her past, Zilis praised Maye Musk, Elon’s mother, for her resilience. “During tough moments I think about the resilience she’s shown and realize she’s encountered 100x the difficulty I’ve faced and she made it through with grace! It gives me resolve,” she wrote.
The world of tech continues to be both a haven and a battlefield for those who work closely with its titans. Shivon Zilis’s story is just one of many in the ever-evolving narrative of tech and humanity.
