The Aventon Current ADV is more than just an electric mountain bike; it’s a testament to how far technology has come in mimicking the real deal. Its super-long wheelbase provides stability, and its 850-watt motor tackles even steep climbs with ease. However, the handlebar-mounted display might take some getting used to.
Despite its design and ride feel, which can make you easily forget you’re riding electric, the Current ADV is a class 1 e-MTB that can be toggled to a class 3 via the brand’s app, giving hours of riding on a single charge. The 800-watt-hour battery offers up to 105 miles of range, though actual mileage varied with frequent switching between power modes.
The Current ADV looks and feels like any other mountain bike, with its 6061 aluminum frame, SRAM Eagle groupset, and double-walled 29-inch wheels. The only downside is the top-tube-mounted display, which can distract from the trail, especially on technical sections. A handlebar-mounted screen might be a welcome change.
Michael Venutolo-Mantovani’s review points out that while the Current ADV excels in downhills, its relatively long wheelbase makes it challenging to navigate tight turns and switchbacks. Still, it stands as a top contender in this price range, offering a seamless experience for experienced cyclists.
