YouTube lets you banish Shorts forever

For some, a zero-minute limit on Shorts is like finally unhooking from a bad habit.

YouTube has introduced a setting that allows users to completely disable the Shorts feature in their app, effectively removing it from view. The option was first rolled out for parents last January but is now available to all users as a way to manage time spent browsing the platform's shorter-form videos.

The zero-minute limit means Short content will no longer appear on your feed or Home screen, replaced by notifications about reaching your limit. For those who find Shorts too distracting, it’s an easy way to regain control over their YouTube experience.

This update is part of a broader effort by the company to help users manage their time online more effectively. In October last year, YouTube introduced a timer function that allowed parents to set a maximum time for their children's use of Shorts, with zero minutes being the lowest option. Now, this feature has been extended to adult accounts.

To activate it, simply navigate to the settings within the YouTube app and select 'time management.' Toggle on the Shorts feed limit and choose zero as your duration. Once set, Shorts will disappear from your Home screen until you manually turn them back on.

For individuals who spend too much time watching these bite-sized videos, this new option provides a convenient solution to curbing that habit. Whether it’s for personal convenience or to encourage healthier internet habits in the next generation, YouTube is clearly taking steps towards user-friendly content management.
