Google’s AI Mode: Side-by-side Web Surfing Simplified

AI, help me choose – but keep your answers handy for later.

Google has introduced a new feature to its Chrome browser that allows users to explore the web alongside AI Mode. By clicking on links within AI Mode, users can open web pages side-by-side with their conversational search assistant. This makes it easier to compare information and ask follow-up questions without losing context.

The feature is particularly useful for detailed searches, such as finding a new coffee maker. You can describe your preferences in AI Mode, click on a link to the retailer’s website, and then ask specific questions like 'how easy is this to clean?' The AI will use both the webpage and its extensive knowledge to provide answers.

In addition to this, Google has also introduced a way to search across multiple tabs that are already open. This means you can mix and match different sources of information including images or files, bringing them into your AI Mode searches for context-aware queries. For instance, if you're researching local hiking trails with several tabs open, you can add these to your search and ask for similar trails in a different location.

The new updates are currently available in the U.S. and will be rolled out to other regions in the future.
