Framework, the company that champions repairable technology, has unveiled an updated 13-inch laptop, dubbed the Framework Laptop 13 Pro. This new model boasts a longer battery life, integrated touchscreen and improved hardware compatibility. The CEO Nirav Patel highlighted Framework’s commitment to user control over tech, contrasting it with what he sees as the industry's push for proprietary solutions.
The $1,499 base price (DIY Edition starts at $1,199) reflects its upgradeable nature, allowing users to tailor and swap components. With four Thunderbolt 4 interfaces and a 3K resolution display, the laptop aims to cater to productivity and entertainment needs alike.
Other updates include a haptic touchpad, wireless keyboard options, and Ubuntu certification. Framework’s philosophy is clear: enabling users to own and control their tech in ways companies are increasingly trying to prevent. Patel envisions a future where ownership and freedom go hand-in-hand, albeit with some heavy emphasis on the DIY aspect.
Meanwhile, existing 16-inch models get upgrades too, including better touchpads and keyboard options. A developer kit for external GPUs hints at Framework’s ambitions beyond just selling laptops. As Patel remarks, this new model embodies their vision of ultimate product refinement, aiming to set a benchmark in the industry.
