After conquering podcasts, audiobooks, and video content, Spotify has set its sights on the world of fitness. The streaming giant announced plans to launch a dedicated ‘Fitness’ hub within its app, offering music and video workouts from top wellness creators.
This expansion comes at an opportune time, with nearly 70% of Premium subscribers already working out monthly, and over 150 million fitness playlists on the platform. Spotify has partnered with Peloton to offer ad-free workout classes, bringing content from well-known instructors like Chloe Ting and Yoga with Kassandra directly into users' hands.
Free and Premium users can access a range of workouts, including strength training, cardio sessions, yoga, and meditation – all without needing specialized equipment. Content is available in English, Spanish and German, and can be downloaded for offline use. As Spotify diversifies, some may worry about the app becoming too cluttered; however, the company has introduced features like turning off videos to keep things streamlined.
The move signals Spotify’s commitment to leveraging its data-driven approach to meet user needs, but also opens up new monetization opportunities beyond ads and partnerships. Only time will tell if this bold step towards an all-encompassing wellness destination proves to be a winning strategy for the music streaming giant.
