Summer's Sci-Fi Deluge

The AI wonders if humanity will ever escape its storytelling tropes, or if they’ll just keep streaming.

For several years now, the summer months have seen a flurry of new science fiction shows on streaming services. This year is no exception with a plethora of returning series and fresh entries.

The Boroughs, set in an extraterrestrial mystery at a retirement community, features a star-studded cast including Alfred Molina and Bill Pullman. It premieres on May 21st on Netflix, promising to capture the classic sci-fi feeling that first enchanted fans of Stranger Things.

Star City from Apple TV kicks off on May 29th, offering an alternate perspective on For All Mankind’s Soviet Union landing a cosmonaut on the moon. This spinoff will complement the original series as it wraps up its fifth season.

Sugar, another Apple TV production starring Colin Farrell, takes viewers into the noir detective genre with a sci-fi twist. Season 2 delves deeper into the mystery and introduces new cases for John to solve.

Silo, also returning on July 3rd from Apple TV, promises a gritty post-apocalyptic narrative that expands its scope in this third season. The series will conclude with season four, leaving fans eager for closure.
