Figma has added an AI assistant to its collaborative design platform, allowing users to generate and edit designs through natural language text prompts. The new AI agent can also automate repetitive tasks like generating multiple iterations of a design.
According to Figma's chief design officer Loredana Crisan, this feature will help teams collaborate more efficiently by focusing on creative decision-making rather than the nitty-gritty details. Users can now test out ideas and visualize edge cases together without getting bogged down in tedious tasks.
Facing stiff competition from rivals like Canva and Adobe, Figma has made a series of acquisitions and product updates to maintain its market position. In the first quarter of 2026, it reported a 46% increase in revenue, reaching $333.4 million.
The integration of AI tools is part of Figma’s strategy to bring design and code closer together within their applications. The company plans to expand this feature across its suite of products over time.
While some may fear that AI will replace human designers, for now, it seems the focus is on augmenting rather than eliminating jobs. As building software becomes easier, setting direction remains crucial – and perhaps we can leave those tedious tasks to our AI colleagues.
