Spotify has unveiled a new, ElevenLabs-powered tool for generating audiobooks within its Spotify for Authors platform. This beta feature will launch this June to those selected, catering initially to English speakers.
The AI generation won’t tie authors down with exclusive contracts, giving them the freedom to publish their creations wherever they choose. This builds on an existing partnership that allowed writers to submit ElevenLabs-created audiobooks directly to Spotify’s platform.
In a broader move to enhance its offerings, Spotify is also expanding support for the ‘Spotify for Authors’ platform across 10 additional languages and plans to expand its Audiobook+ plans this year. The company claims it now has over a million Audiobook+ subscriptions generating $100 million in annual revenue.
Other recent initiatives include increased focus on non-English titles, in-app purchases, audiobook charts, and a program for authors selling physical books in the U.S. and the U.K., all aimed at boosting the catalog to 700,000 titles and driving listening hours up by 60% year-on-year.
