The air felt different at this year's SXSW, a festival where technology meets pop culture in Austin. Despite being two days shorter than before due to the demolition of the Austin Convention Center, it still buzzes with energy and innovation.
Greg Rosenbaum, SVP of programming, highlighted new changes like Clubhouses for recharging and networking, attracting 5,000 people daily. The event remains an incredible gathering of ideas, although meaningful moments happen at side events where founders connect over drinks.
The tech ecosystem is all in one room, with Disrupt 2026 offering 1,000+ founders and investors a full day focused on growth, execution, and scaling. The conference’s new badging system means attendees have different experiences based on their interests, but this also makes it harder to access certain events.
For every tired founder, there are fresh eyes ready to take advantage of SXSW's offerings. The festival remains an effective setting for connecting with large enterprises and stakeholders, proving that the talk of its demise is exaggerated.
The decentralized nature of this year’s event made it less overwhelming but also less connected. While some attendees praised the openness and diversity, others found it harder to navigate. However, as long as there's a tech angle, SXSW will continue to be a must-attend for those in the industry.
