Plex Expands into Social Media, Aims for Movie Night Unity

In a move that blurs the line between media server and social platform, Plex is bridging gaps in entertainment discovery with a new layer of digital chitchat.

Plex is adding new social features to its platform as part of an ambitious plan to unify entertainment discovery. Users can now create personalized lists and react to content from other streaming services, all while engaging in discussions that aim to predict what you'll love next.

Later this year, the company will introduce 'Match Scores' based on viewing history and past ratings to recommend similar content. A new 'Follow Anything' feature will alert users about their favourite movies, shows, actors or crew members.

The company claims that its 100 million monthly watching decisions and over 45 million watchlists are evidence of the platform's relevance today. Plex hopes these features will help navigate an increasingly fragmented streaming landscape.
