In recent days, New Yorkers have been scratching their heads over manhole mysteries. Security footage from May 5 and 29 captured groups of people popping in and out of city sewers, raising questions about their motives.
While the NYPD suspects scavengers searching for valuables, urban exploration content creators say they’re not part of this underground activity. 'Doo doo water and a few needles,' one creator quips, adding that sewers are dangerous due to lack of cell service.
The absence of recent urbex content featuring New York’s sewers suggests the explorers might be doing it for something more than just content. One creator notes, 'Multiple people going into different sewers across NYC seems fishy,' hinting at a deeper intrigue or possibly illegal activity.
Despite reassurances from authorities that there's no public safety risk, some creators suggest exploring sewers could offer thrills like finding abandoned trolley tracks. However, the general consensus is that such exploration is both illegal and extremely dangerous.
