Apple has unveiled a new feature that could revolutionize the way we split bills at dinner parties. With the new Siri in Camera function, users can point their iPhone camera at a receipt and select what they ordered to easily send separate Apple Cash payment requests.
The feature is designed to make bill splitting less awkward and drawn-out, as users can now keep track of who got each item. According to Sebastien Marineau-Mes, an Apple VP of Software, the feature works seamlessly: ‘If you’re grabbing a bite with friends and point your iPhone at the bill, then [you can] select what you ordered to split the tab with Apple Cash’.
However, will this innovative solution catch on? Splitting bills has traditionally been managed through apps like SplitWise or Tab, but these have not seen widespread adoption. The convenience of using native Apple features might just make the difference.
In addition to splitting tabs, Siri in Camera can also provide nutritional information about the food you’re eating during your meal. This dual functionality could turn a mundane task into something more useful and informative for health-conscious diners.
