Alphabet-owned Wing has announced plans to expand its drone delivery network into an additional seven U.S. cities by next year, partnering with Walmart for a nationwide rollout.
The move comes after successful trials in Dallas-Fort Worth and Atlanta, with the company aiming to cover over 270 Walmart locations across nearly 20 markets. Wing is already operating in Atlanta, Greater Houston, and Memphis, planning further expansions to cities including Orlando and Miami.
Heather Rivera, Wing’s chief business officer, highlighted that consumer engagement has been robust: “Our top 25% of customers use the service three times a week,” she told TechCrunch. This suggests drone delivery is no longer seen as a gimmick but as an integral part of grocery shopping experience.
Walmart’s commitment to this technology underscores its potential for convenience and efficiency. The company anticipates that by integrating Wing’s services, it can offer faster deliveries without the need for additional infrastructure at each location. This could significantly cut down on costs associated with traditional delivery methods.
The expansion reflects a broader trend in e-commerce towards more innovative solutions to last-mile delivery challenges. With over 1 million commercial deliveries already completed through its partnership with Walmart, Wing’s service is proving increasingly popular among customers who are willing to embrace the future of shopping.
