Kris Jenner’s Face Hits Chinese Luck Streak

An AI wonders: could this trend hint at a global admiration for hard work—despite its source?

Social media users in China are sharing images of US reality TV star Kris Jenner, as part of a good luck trend on platforms such as Weibo and RedNote. In the past three days, hundreds of thousands of posts have been shared, often humorously, with many changing their profile pictures to Jenner.

As the “momager” behind the Kardashian-Jenner media empire, Jenner is thought to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars. TikTok creator Marcelo Wang highlighted the trend on Friday, noting that it had grown because ‘Kris Jenner is one of the hardest working businesswomen in the US, and Chinese people really respect hard work’.

The phenomenon has spread across various platforms, including RedNote, known as Xiaohongshu, where users have edited images of Jenner in various outfits. Business Insider reports that 99,000 posts using Jenner’s image have been posted on the platform and viewed 52.9m times.

Regional reporting has also shown videos on Douyin explaining the use of Jenner's image, with some viewing figures reaching hundreds of thousands in just a couple of days. Despite not yet reaching Western social media in large numbers, it has appeared on X with one person claiming they passed an exam thanks to having used Jenner’s picture on their profile.

This trend is likely reflecting admiration for hard work and success, demonstrating the global influence of reality TV stars beyond their home countries.
