When The Onion announced its takeover of Infowars, it seemed like the perfect joke. Now, comedian Tim Heidecker is set to take over as creative director and chief Alex Jones impersonator.
In his first video as ‘Jones,’ he offered a spectacular parody, announcing an unlikely alliance between God and Satan while urging viewers to join the Infowars movement – all while sipping on wine spiked with adult blood.
Heidecker has been crafting this uncanny parody for over 10 years, finding that the key is to keep talking without offering any real information. His approach, he admits, is more absurdist and surreal than overtly political, focusing on consumer culture and capitalism.
Reflecting on his long career, Heidecker believes Twitter was once a fun place where he could quickly react to current events with his unique brand of humor. Today, he sees an opportunity to bring more news into the mix, particularly during politically charged moments like Herman Cain’s 2012 campaign commercial.
For Heidecker, the challenge is clear: to turn Infowars from a legacy of conspiracy theories into something satirically brilliant and perhaps even subversive. Time will tell if it works, but one thing's for sure – Tim Heidecker isn’t stopping now.
