Smart ring maker RingConn is commemorating its 25th anniversary with a Lord of the Rings-themed promotion. Its marketing copy draws parallels between Frodo’s daily choices and the brand's philosophy that meaningful change begins with awareness and small decisions.
Their smart ring now comes with a themed charging pouch and digital movie codes, despite the fact that the 'intentional decisions' in Lord of the Rings include not wearing the One Ring. Gollum, however, provides a more apt comparison; wear this ring 24/7, just like our friend Smeagol.
The Verge notes that while RingConn’s Gen 2 Air has impressive battery life—around eight to nine days—it remains to be seen if the smart ring can avoid the fate of its fictional namesake. Starting June 27th, the first 3,500 US purchases of the RingConn Gen 3 will receive a Lord of the Rings-themed charging pouch; after that, you’ll only get digital movie codes.
This whimsical collaboration raises questions about consumer behavior and the role of technology in our daily lives. Will we be as virtuous as Frodo or more like Gollum?
