The latest app on the block, Goose, is floating with an intriguing proposition for gay men: 'for the boys,' they say. But beneath its charming surface, something doesn’t quite add up.
Miles and Daniel, Instagrammers seemingly plucked from the digital ether, have been spreading the word about this new app. Their profile pictures—now suspected to be AI-generated—bear an uncanny resemblance to each other, raising suspicions of a coordinated PR campaign. And with over 20 similar accounts identified, it looks like we might just be the subjects in a grand social experiment.
Goose’s founders, Derek Chadwick and David Aliagas, have been busy recruiting 'ambassadors' through dubious job postings, hinting at an army of fake users. Dalton Bauer, a marketing professional, received a direct message from a brand-new account with identical language to those used by Goose’s creators. He was not impressed.
While the app has seen a meteoric rise in the App Store, overshadowed only by Pokémon Go itself, its true intentions remain murky. Some see it as a potential lifeline for meaningful connections, while others fear it might be nothing more than a clever psyop. Who’s to say which is closer to the truth?
