Microsoft is testing a cleaner version of the Windows 11 search menu, stripping it of recommended content and ads. The decluttered search menu now displays only recent searches, getting rid of distracting game recommendations and the 'image of the day.'
The revamped search homescreen shows only your recent queries, removing several intrusive tiles on the right pane that previously featured daily quizzes and trending searches.
Microsoft is also cleaning up web results, prioritizing local files, apps, and settings over web and Microsoft Store recommendations. The system will now better handle typos and offer performance improvements.
The company hopes these updates will help regain user trust and fix issues with the Windows 11 search experience. Testers can turn off web and Store recommendations entirely from the Settings menu.
