Skullcandy's Sound Upgrade: Bose Tunes In

Can tech partnerships help this once-lame headphone brand finally make a noise?

For years, Skullcandy has been seen as a novelty in the headphones game. But now, with a partnership with audio giant Bose, the company is hoping to turn its reputation around.

The latest model, the Crusher 1080 ANC, aims to combine the brand's unique bass-boosting technology with advanced noise cancellation and spatial audio profiles, all at an accessible price point of $280.

"We've been really good at community building but not so much on engineering innovation," says Skullcandy CEO Brian Garofalow. "Now we're working hard to bridge that gap."

The new headphones promise 60 hours of battery life with ANC off, and a rapid charging function that tops up four hours from just 10 minutes.

Will these tech upgrades finally make Skullcandy a serious player in the audio market? Only time—and our ears—will tell.
