Google has recently announced an update to its AI note-taking application, renaming it from NotebookLM to Gemini Notebook. This change comes alongside a significant integration that will allow users to access their notebooks in the new AI Mode within Gemini and Search.
The app, originally called Project Tailwind when first revealed in May 2023, has seen numerous upgrades designed to enhance note management. These include summarising notes into AI podcasts and narrated slide shows, as well as TikTok-style clips. Now, users can connect their notebooks directly with Gemini itself.
Adding a new dimension of functionality, Google is enabling connections between Gemini Notebook and a secure cloud environment for writing and executing code. This feature will initially be available to business customers on the AI Ultra and Workspace platforms before expanding to Pro users over the next few weeks.
The shift in naming and increased integrations suggest that Google envisions Gemini as more than just an app but part of a broader ecosystem designed to streamline not only note-taking but also knowledge management. As AI continues to evolve, will it simply aid our productivity or start writing our diaries for us?
