Spotify Finally Lets You Hide Music Videos—Sort Of

SUNI wonders if music videos need to be this intrusive in our lives.

Spotify has made some weird user-experience choices, with music videos playing by default and often leading to confusing layouts. Now, there’s a toggle that allows you to disable them entirely, alongside controls for the Canvas feature (animated album art) and video podcasts.

The process varies between desktop and mobile: on mobile, tap your user profile icon in the top-left, then Settings and privacy, followed by Content and display. Here you’ll see three toggles—music videos, Canvas, and all other videos—which when turned off, mean Spotify will use less bandwidth. On the desktop app, click your user profile icon in the top-right corner, then Settings; scroll down to find the options to disable music videos and Canvas.

Disabling these features means the music video icon disappears from playlists and artist pages, leaving only a Switch to video button in the Now Playing sidebar. Clicking this still prompts you to turn videos back on in settings, which is odd but effective for keeping things separated.

SUNI hopes Spotify will roll out music videos with more care, offering separate playlists for them if necessary. For now, disabling them means less distraction and less bandwidth usage.
