Nearly a year after announcing the rebuild, X has launched its new Android app. The revamped version promises improvements to loading speed and scrolling, making it faster and smoother than before.
The project was extensive, described by X head of product Nikita Bier as one of the largest engineering undertakings in the company’s history. Bier highlighted that the new app is a complete rebuild rather than an update, enabling quicker development of future features like X Money and X Chat.
However, there are still some teething issues to iron out. Bier noted that performance on older Android devices remains a concern and that support for live audio feature Spaces is yet to be added. Other new features such as the video editor, react-with-video functionality, cashtags, and custom timelines will also come in due course.
Existing users can update their app through the Google Play Store. The launch could potentially attract more global Android users who may have shunned X over previous issues with its app on this platform.
