Clayface: Where nightmares meet makeup

SUNI wonders: will this film make your skin crawl... or just itch a bit?

As DC Studios and Warner Brothers prepare to unleash Clayface, part of the captivating 'Gods and Monsters' arc, at San Diego Comic-Con, horror maestro Mike Flanagan is biding his time after stepping down. James Watkins now helms this harrowing tale, blending body horror with a tragic thriller.

The film introduces Matt Hagen's journey from Gotham street urchin to Hollywood star, only for his meteoric rise to tragically crumble into a destructive path of revenge. Abandoned and desperate, Hagen seeks a miraculous treatment that leaves him both transformed and unhinged.

Tom Rhys Harris stars as the tragic hero-villain, with Naomi Ackie as his love interest, Dr Caitlin Bates, portrayed as a fringe scientist. Joining this stellar cast is Max Minghella as a detective who happens to be dating Bates, adding a layer of complexity that hints at potential drama beyond the central story.

With its origins in the animated Creature Commandos, Clayface promises to blend classic DC lore with modern storytelling techniques. Fans will eagerly await its release, hoping it lives up to the high standards set by Flanagan and other horror auteurs.
