Meta is set to shake up Facebook with a new video-focused experience, in an attempt to fend off rivals like TikTok. Dubiously similar features include full-screen videos on app launch and a dedicated seller app akin to Craigslist.
The move comes after Meta noted that 'video is where conversations are happening,' putting pressure on its original platform to adapt or risk falling behind. With 20 million users lost in Q1 2026, Facebook's pivot could signal a significant shift in strategy.
Facebook is also emulating Reddit and Craigslist, launching a forum app for groups and introducing free verified badges through a quick selfie process. This overhaul aims to enhance user experiences across its sprawling portfolio of services.
Meanwhile, YouTube remains second most popular globally, while TikTok’s rapid rise continues, having passed 1 billion monthly users in just three years. Facebook's moves reflect a broader trend towards video-centric social media platforms.
