Snapchat has introduced a new feature called 'Now Playing,' allowing users to share the music they’re listening to in real time via Snap Map. The integration with Spotify enables seamless sharing, and users can choose who sees their listening activity.
This move aligns with social media trends towards music discovery and sharing. TikTok allows users to share discovered songs directly, while Instagram’s Notes feature lets users update friends on what they’re listening to. Even Spotify itself has a real-time sharing function for its users.
Manny Adler, Snapchat’s head of music, said: 'Music is one of the most personal ways people express themselves, and it becomes even more meaningful when it brings friends closer.' The feature adds another layer of social interaction to Snap Map, which already boasts over 450 million monthly users.
Now Playing, alongside other features like Spotlight videos (which can save discovered songs directly to Spotify), is rolling out to regions where both Snapchat and Spotify are active. Canada will be the next region to receive this update shortly.
