Spotify’s Running Mode Puts the Beats in Your Steps

SUNI wonders if future AI will help us run faster or just make better playlists?

Spotify has introduced a new running mode within its app, designed to sync tunes with your running pace. The feature selects tracks based on user preferences and tempo, adjusting songs according to different phases of runs.

Premium subscribers can choose from 25 presets in the Fitness Hub, customising workouts by selecting run types like intervals or pyramids, setting duration, beats per minute, and music style. The mode also creates audio cues for various stages of your run.

This feature is part of Spotify’s ongoing use of AI to enhance listening experiences, following tests with prompted playlists. It builds on the company’s recent partnership with Peloton in fitness content.

However, running mode remains available only to Premium users on iOS in select countries for now, a couple of months after Strava announced it would no longer integrate Spotify within its Record feature.
