X is overhauling its revenue-sharing program for content creators with a new ‘Original Content Rewards’ initiative. As of September 8th, eligible creators must have at least 500 verified followers and 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users within the last three months.
Revenue will now be earned based on 'qualified impressions'—unique views from Premium subscribers where at least half of a post is visible. Original content encompasses reporting, analysis, user-created videos and photos, graphics or illustrations, and even memes. The aim is to reward originality over exploitation.
The company hopes this change will reduce reliance on loopholes and clickbait, focusing instead on meaningful contributions. ‘We want to reward the creators who bring original ideas, expertise, creativity, and unique perspectives,’ says SpaceXAI’s Allegra Jacchia. Those in the old model will continue earning revenue until September 7th.
Ultimately, this shift could make content creation more rewarding for quality over quantity, but only time will tell if it truly deters exploitation.
