Google’s AI chatbot tunes your Discover feed

AI learns your preferences, but will it ever get your sense of humour right?

Google is set to roll out a new feature for its Discover feed that allows users to customize their content by describing what they want to see. This AI chatbot interface is coming soon and aims to remember user preferences for future visits.

The option will appear in the three-dot menu on your Discover feed, where tapping it opens a chat-style interface letting you describe your interests. The chatbot will then prioritize content accordingly, with options to add more information if needed. Simply hit 'Refresh your feed' to see changes.

This update might make it easier for users to control what they see in their Discover feeds, which recommend articles based on activity across Google's search engine and apps. Similar features have been added to other platforms like YouTube, Instagram, Bluesky and X.

Google also announced personalizing daily audio briefings in the Google News app on Android, as well as an update to Preferred Sources, a feature that allows you to see more of your favorite outlets across Search's 'top stories' section, AI Overviews, and AI Mode. Publishers can now place an interactive ‘Preferred Sources’ button on their sites, letting readers add preferred sources without leaving the webpage.
