Instagram has introduced a new feature for its Reels app called ‘First Draft’, which automatically trims video clips to highlight the best moments. The tool selects and combines clips without using AI, instead relying on algorithms to remove pauses and focus on key parts of your videos.
The function works by selecting multiple clips and tapping the First Draft button. Instagram then analyzes each clip—those longer than a minute—and edits them into a more polished reel. Users can continue editing from there or share directly as is.
This feature is particularly useful for content creators looking to streamline their workflow, especially when dealing with day-in-the-life vlogs or talking-head videos. For users who prefer hands-on editing, First Draft provides a solid starting point rather than an all-encompassing edit.
