AI Misuse Spreads Like Wildfire

From hacking to bioweapons, AI’s dark side is everywhere and growing.

Meta failed to catch around 350 AI child abuse ads, including one depicting a European royal family member. Lawmakers are investigating, and the company is under pressure to curb these ads.

Clearview AI tested InquiryIQ, an AI tool for law enforcement, raising privacy concerns as Apple unveiled new audio intelligence features for its Apple Watch, with a focus on security.

The US and Mexico are deploying laser technology to detect drones at the border, while a GTA V mod allows in-game destruction of license plate recognition cameras. Meanwhile, Anthropic's AI tool, Claude, has been misused in state-sponsored hacking, disinformation campaigns and even bioweapon attempts.

In a case study, Russian state-sponsored hackers used Claude for reconnaissance, while cybercriminals like ShinyHunters employed it in their operations. Anthropic claims to have thwarted these threats, but the report hints at a darker future for AI.

US authorities disrupted the Xinbi Guarantee, the internet's largest black market, and sentenced a Conti ransomware gang member to four years in prison, but the threat of AI misuse remains pervasive.
