Half a year after Iranian drone strikes left multiple Amazon data centers offline, the tech giant has admitted to the permanent loss of some customer data stored in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates. According to an AWS dashboard update, the company is unable to restore access to resources and data in one of the three AWS availability zones within the UAE region, specifically the mec1-az2 zone. However, they are still working to recover resources in the other two availability zones in the UAE. For the data centers in Bahrain, the destruction was more widespread, with AWS unable to restore access to any of the three availability zones. The statement from AWS highlights that the damage was beyond the capabilities of their regional and multi-AZ services to withstand. The loss of data represents a significant challenge for both Amazon and its customers, as the company continues to update customers on the progress of their restoration efforts in the coming months.
